Did you know that a pumpkin is technically a fruit from a botanist's perspective? However, pumpkins are credited as a vegetable in the CACFP, as are tomatoes and avocados, which are also technically fruits. Check out this week's resources on how you can use pumpkins in your menu planning.
Last week, exciting new legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Landsman and Congresswoman Bonamici. The Child Care Nutrition Enhancement Act aims to permanently:
Provide an additional 10 cent reimbursement for each meal and snack served in the CACFP
Eliminate the tiering of family day care homes
Allow family day care home providers to claim their own children’s meals for reimbursement
We understand that it can be difficult for child care providers to find time to pursue continuing education during the week, which is why we're hosting CACFP Provider Day on Saturday, October 14! This virtual training is designed for family child care home providers. We're also giving away 100 scholarships to attend. Apply by Sunday, October 1.
Do you know providers who have not yet signed up for the CACFP? Forward this email or share these links to help spread the word about how they can start getting reimbursed for the healthy meals and snacks that they might already be serving.
