Have you tried family-style dining? It can be a wonderful way for children to learn valuable social skills, how to set the table, and help them gain autonomy in their preferences. Keep reading for some great resources to help you implement family-style dining in your care facility.

International Nacho Day

Nachos are a great way to quickly serve up the CACFP meal pattern components, and can have added value as a Family-Style Dining experience with children who are able to serve themselves. For an easy make-your-own nacho bar for International Nacho Day on October 21, give children ages 3-5 a plate with 1/2 oz eq of whole grain tortilla chips. Then, have them scoop 2 oz of cooked, seasoned chicken and 1/4 cup of refried beans onto their chips. They can choose the rest of their toppings to their liking, such as cheese or salsa.
