CACFP Relief Bill Introduced in Congress to Provide Emergency Funding

We are excited to share that today, Maryland US Representative David Trone introduced a bill to Congress that would provide emergency funding to CACFP operators. If passed, child care providers, centers, and sponsors would receive emergency funding equal to 55% of [reimbursements from the same month of the previous year minus any current reimbursements]. Pandemic Response: Serving Summer Food Now

The YMCA of Dane County is providing meals at seven sites. We have four open sites in the city of Sun Prairie for kids, operating through the Summer Food Service Program. The three other sites are at our branches where we have an evening brown bag available to anyone who needs one. - Joanne Marquez, Madison, WI

Meat Alternates

Worried about a meat shortage? Remember there are many ways to meet the meal pattern requirements with Meat Alternates including cheese, yogurt, soy yogurt, dry beans and peas, whole eggs, tofu, tempeh, peanut butter or other nut or seed butters, and nuts and seeds.

Alternative Meal Distribution

USDA does not have the legal authority to reimburse Program operators for meals provided to ineligible adults, however, they have issued a nationwide waiver to allow for food program operators to distribute meals and snacks to parents and guardians to give to their eligible child. USDA Team Nutrition has produced a best practices tip sheet for organizations with helpful suggestions. As always, work directly with your state agency for alternative meal distribution strategies in your state.
