CACFP Week: Honoring You If ever there were a week for us to salute all of you that work in the Child and Adult Care Food Program, it would be this one. You are among the front line of first defenders in our world today. You are the ones who are making our new normal a bit less scary for the children in your care. You are the ones who are working with adult day cares and at risk populations. Your work ensures that millions will have access to healthy food no matter what. For access to materials you can use with your children, a certificate of awesomeness to give to everyone you work with, or for sharing the CACFP story today, tomorrow, or whenever you are ready - we'll be waiting for you online. |
COVID-19 Resources Change is happening hourly across the United States in response to the Coronavirus Disease. We know that many of you, like us, are all doing your best to serve your community. The truth is, none of us know what life will be like over the next weeks. We will continue to support the CACFP & SFSP community during this pandemic in any way we can. USDA FNS has shared that in school meals and other child nutrition programs, USDA can waive the requirements that meals are served in group settings, allow meals to be served at school sites during unanticipated school closures, allow school program operators to modify meal components or service times, and waive certain administrative requirements. When a Federal Major Disaster Declaration has been issued, USDA can allow summer and child care operators to modify meal components, and waive additional administrative requirements. At this time, all 50 U.S. States, Puerto Rico, and Washington DC have received waiver approvals enabling sponsors to serve meals in a non-congregate setting. Check with your state agency to see which, if any, other waivers are in place in your home state. |
USDA Team Nutrition Releases New Crediting Handbook The Food Buying Guide for Child Nutrition Programs, commonly referred to as the Food Buying Guide (FBG), is your primary resource to determine if a food is creditable. It contains a wide variety of foods (such as fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats/ meat alternates). This newly released Crediting Handbook may include foods that are not listed in the Food Buying Guide, however the Crediting Handbook is not an all-inclusive publication. Contact your sponsoring organization or State agency if you need assistance to determine if a food is creditable in the CACFP. |
