Pandemic Response: Keeping Kids Safe 3 Weeks, 24-Hours

On March 10th, when Coronavirus was shutting down the country, I asked my childcare families if they would like to leave their children with me for 21 days. Most of my families are essential workers and this gave parents the much-needed time to figure out the best plan for their families while their children were safe with me in an environment they were used to. All of my families took me up on my offer - thank goodness for my 24-hour license! - Vicky Urwiller-Sepcenko

Providing Multiple Meals at a Time for Children During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Under nationwide non-congregate feeding and meal time waivers, state agencies may allow Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) sites and school food authorities to provide more than one day's worth of meals to eligible children via a single meal pick-up or delivery.

USDA FNS Team Nutrition has new tip sheets which provide information about using bulk foods and distributing multiple meals at a time. As always, check with your state agency for further guidance.

Financial Relief Needed

The US House of Representatives passed the bill that would give financial relief to child care providers, centers, afterschool programs, emergency shelters, and sponsoring organizations.

The Senate has not moved forward with it at all. Ask them to pass the bill and provide aid now to keep child care, adult care, and sponsoring organizations open for business.
