Impact of COVID on the CACFP

Over 1,200 survey respondents confirmed what many of us already knew: COVID-19 has impacted CACFP operators and child care businesses with severe financial challenges. CACFP operators are in overwhelming need of direct and significant financial aid outside of current program funding. Child care and the CACFP community are on the brink of collapse and facing imminent threat of shutting down without it.

NEW Urgent Call to Action

Add your zip code to send this letter to your representatives in Congress, the White House, and USDA Secretary Sonny Purdue sharing the report on the Impact of COVID on the CACFP.

Ask them to pass a bill now and provide financial aid to keep child care, adult care, and sponsoring organizations open for business.
Transitional Menu Planning Tool

Texas Department of Agriculture developed this great tool for menu planning during COVID. Written for schools, this can also help all food program operators as they consider menu and service needs.

Start planning now to be prepared for the fall. Service style may change but your menus and products can stay the same. By planning a quality, transitional menu now, you will be prepared for any service style.

Pandemic Response:
Lee City Schools, Tupelo, MS

Since closure in March, we have fed drive-thru grab-n-go meals at 6 of our 11 school sites. From March 23 - June 30, we fed 135,432 child meals and sold 846 adult meals. We distributed meals every Monday & Wednesday to all children ages 18 and younger through the SFSP program. On Mondays, each child received two free breakfast and lunch meals. On Wednesdays, each child received three free breakfast and lunch meals. Children sent thank you videos, cards and notes to staff. We were honored to be a helpful resource for families during these scary times, and we couldn't have imagined not providing meals when we know so many needed us more than ever before. ~ Valerie Weivoda
