Today, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced a $1.7 billion investment from the Commodity Credit Corporation which included, for the first time, $200 million specifically for child and adult care providers participating in the CACFP. NCA commends Secretary Vilsack and USDA for this historic investment and their ongoing support of CACFP.
It's October, and that means our new membership year has started. Last year, we hosted free-for-member and member-only webinars, provided discounts to in-person and online trainings, created new, member-only resources and represented you as we advocated for CACFP in Washington, DC. We have more in store for you this upcoming year and can't wait to see what we can accomplish together in FY25!
The National CACFP Sponsors Association Board of Directors elections welcomed the addition of Michelle Buchanan, as well as the re-election of Deborah Gillison-Wilson, to a three-year term. The Board also named its Executive Board, with Denise Andrews serving as the Chair for the Year, Alix Pasillas serving as the Chair-Elect and Treasurer, and Gabriela Rangel returning as Secretary.

After switching to the CACFP for their afterschool supper program, Spring Branch ISD noted an increase in participation from its previous afterschool snack option. It also opened the door to serving a meal and a snack on the weekend. The Oldways Whole Grains Council supports a robust website full of recipes, health studies, informational blog posts, and free downloadable resources and activities to support foodservice providers, dietitians, and consumers alike. They celebrate several whole grain holidays throughout the year including Whole Day for Whole Grain at the end of March, Whole Grains Month in September, and International Whole Grain Day in November. In partnership with foodservice providers, community educators, and health professionals, they work to promote whole grains and healthy eating.
